Portrait of Vladimir, Companion of the Year! Art-Wednesday

I had the pleasure of being commissioned to create a custom portrait Vladimir, a very special clinic cat! March 5th, he was inaugurated into the Animal Hall of Fame as Companion of the Year through the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association!

Vladimir began life as a stray, became a barn cat, and then grew to become the "Greeter" at "All Creatures Great & Small Veterinary Clinic", a post he has happily kept for the past seven and a half years! A truly lovely & sweet gentleman!

I created the following digital painting for his award ceremony & the human team of "All Creatures Great & Small Veterinary Clinic".

Below is the finished illustration, followed by a couple in-progress photos.

First Art-Wednesday Post: What's New?

Hello! It is the first Wednesday 2016, so today starts my weekly posting!

You may have been wondering, where has Brianna been? Has she been busy, doing art? So to catch everyone up on my progress during my blog posting break, I want to let you know about my most exciting new art-adventures!

I was doing some soul searching during my months of blogging hiatus, and came to two conclusions: First, I wanted to do more art. And secondly, I wanted to start something new with it.

To start addressing my goal of creating more art, I have launched these Art-Post-Wednesdays hosted here on my blog, and I have also started a "365 Day" Art Challenge on my Instagram @briannaleahyart  , which I started January 1st, 2016!

But what should I do with my artwork that is "new"? Multiple friends, peers and colleagues had been suggesting Etsy to me for quite some time, so I began to research everything about it. What I found had me so excited! Though I plan to have a "Grand Opening" of my Etsy shop:  Badgerbri Art in the near future, I am glad to say that the store is open! You can click the link above to check it out.

Etsy Shop:  Badgerbri Art's first products, available for purchase now!

And if that is not enough, I have started collaborating with a marine microbial ecologist from Oregon State University for a new, ongoing art and science project! For clues to what that might be, watch my Instagram....we will leak more details later when the project gets closer to its first (of many) publishing!

So, I am going to be hard at work on my daily Instagram, my weekly blog posting, working on a collaborative science & art project, and with developing my Etsy Shop to fit my hopeful vision. Here's to a great 2016!

Crookshanks: Harry Potter Fan Art!

It's Harry Potter fan art time! My sister and I were enjoying Pottermore last night, and it inspired me to paint this! Here is my interpretation of Crookshanks, Hermione Granger's cat. Done entirely on my bamboo tablet in Photoshop CS5.

I do NOT claim any rights to Harry Potter or the characters! This is fan art. Thank you!

Fun with Cats! Sketches

The cats at the shelter where I volunteer always seem to have such personalities! So I couldn't help but have fun whipping up some quick sketches of the little characters when I got home!

This is a page from my sketchbook, done in Prismacolor colored pencil.

Artist Discovery! : Simon Tofield

If you have not run across Simon Tofield's "Simon's Cat" animated films on youtube, or had a friend awesome enough to show you his work, I am here to fill that gap! I saw his first film 'Cat Man Do' a year or two ago, and I could not help but smile when watching it! This adorable cat with its mischievous antics are sure to entertain any animal lover and make your day :) I find that the simplicity of the black line on white lends itself to the stylization of the characters -- I love the design of the cat!!! So I encourage you to check out the website below, click on the 'Films' tab, and enjoy!

(p.s.-- his new one 'Double Trouble' is extremely cute and funny!)
