A Dog Day (Days#7,8)

Last night I sketched, but didn't feel like posting anything. But hey, the goal is to get me drawing so...success!? All the same, tonight I felt like I just had to draw something I could post; if only to keep myself accountable to my challenge!

Tonight's sketch is inspired by my cutie, my doggo Belle! No picture will ever do her justice, but I would love more time to create art of her :) Just not tonight...it's so late already!

Good night all!

Arrow the Pup: A Special Art - Tuesday

I was honored with the opportunity to do a portrait in loving memory of a sweet dog, Arrow. Below you can see the final portrait and a couple of stages of my process. Rest in peace dear pup.

Pug! Art-Wednesday

I think we could all use a silly pug! So when a friend suggested I draw one, I was very happy to create this pudgy, smiling pup. This picture is a combination of a photo of my brush pen sketch and digital color with my iPhone using the PicsArt app. Enjoy!

Brush Pen Sketchbook Pages: Art-Wednesday

Brush pens and Copic markers are great, helpful tools for me! They force me to loosen up, which feels a bit contridictory since they are instantly permanent. But I suppose that's why; I cannot fret about making every line perfect, I just have to visualize carefully and trust my hands.

So, these are a few of my recent favorite sketches.

I want to share with you my most recent finished creation:  a portrait of my friend's dogs as a wedding gift for her! Digitally drawn and painted, but I embellished the print with gold by hand with a calligraphy pen.

Christmas Pup: A Sculpture

Merry Christmas! I hope everyone is having a nice holiday!

This year I decided to make my little sister a desktop sculpture of her dog for Christmas, so here it is! Made with Sculpey Clay and foil, and painted with acrylic. I did add some clear nail polish to the eyes and nose so they would look wet, and embroidery thread for her collar. I have included some pictures of my work in progress too; I think it's interesting to see the difference paint makes!

Little Dog Problem

Life is tough for a little dog! Especially when you have to drag your little self from your comfy bed to beg at your family's feet for treats. So hard.

I drew our adorable Iris while she was waiting for my sister to give in to her puppy dog eyes. Colored pencil on paper.

Animal Motion Studies

Some more animal and wildlife drawing! I did these motion studies a bit ago by referencing BBC Motion Gallery footage (Links below). The first study is of a border collie herding some sheep, and the second is of a baby wildebeest playing. They were both done on paper with Prismacolor colored pencil.

My Sketchbook Pages: Dog and Hyena Studies

Even more gesture drawing studies!!! I referenced the book Drawing Animals by Hugh Laidman, 2003. This is the third installment!

And course I do not claim the original drawings as my own; these are just studies to practice what I have been learning in my Animal and Wildlife drawing class.

All of the drawings were done in a dark brown Prismacolor colored pencil.
